On Saturday March 12th Mike Francesa and Chris “Mad Dog” Russo will take the stage at FrancesaCon. Later this month they will share the stage for their reunion show at Radio City Music Hall. While they probably won’t be riding to either event, it’s a perfect time to share some audios that fellow mongo @Justin_Raub recently shared on YouTube from the Mike and the Mad Dog, Pink Cadillac era.
These audios are from twenty years ago during the Yankees run to their first World Series title in 18 years. They come courtesy of cassette tapes Justin has saved all these years.
In this audio we hear Francesa FIRE DUP! He must have been cheering quite a bit that night because his voice is clearly very hoarse. For those listeners to Mike’s show nowadays, you would never hear him take such an excited tone for a team he roots for. This is a fun listen.
That clip is great because Mike and Dog are having fun listening to the John Sterling radio calls from game 5 of the World Series. We also get a feeling for how Suzyn handled being WFAN’s Sweeney Murti, love her or hate her, she was very good in that role.
In this clip, a jubilant Francesa, Russo and Waldman close out the coverage of the game from the booth at Yankee Stadium after game 6. Again, you can’t imagine today’s Francesa doing something like, this, it’s a lot of fun to hear.
And finally, here’s a bonus clip that Justin posted a while back of Mike and the Mad Dog after the famous Jeffrey Maier game, they absolutely go after each other and it’s solid gold.
